Daily Scripture Readings: If you’re reading along with us, today’s McCheyne Reading Plan passages are:

  • Deuteronomy 3
  • Psalm 85
  • Isaiah 31
  • Revelation 1

Take 15-20 minutes to read these chapters, then come back and join me.

Scripture Reading: John 6:4-13 (ESV) 4 Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand. 5 Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?” 6 He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do. 7 Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread would not be enough for each of them to get a little.” 8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him, 9 “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?” 10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, about five thousand in number. 11 Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated. So also the fish, as much as they wanted. 12 And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, “Gather up the leftover fragments, that nothing may be lost.” 13 So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves left by those who had eaten.”

Reflection: Andrew didn’t dismiss the boy’s small lunch. Most would seek greater resources, but Jesus used what was offered. Jesus’ act of giving thanks and distributing the loaves and fish to feed thousands highlights His power to multiply limited resources.

Application: Like the boy’s offering, our time and efforts often seem insufficient for the vast needs we face. However, Jesus invites us to trust Him with our “not enough” so He can multiply it. Are we willing to surrender our gifts, time, and talents to Him, trusting Him to provide?

Summary: This episode looks at the opposition and spiritual warfare we can face when stepping into our God-given callings. It examines common fears like failure, rejection, inadequacy and how the enemy uses these to derail us. The host shares truths from Psalm 23 and practical strategies for countering the opposing forces and moving forward with confidence.

Key Points:

Scripture Reading: Genesis 3:8 (ESV) And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool[a] of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

Key Points:

God created the Garden of Eden as a place of perfect harmony and communion with Him
Adam and Eve walked with God in intimacy and trust, not just gaining knowledge
The temptation was to seek knowledge over relationship/intimacy with God
Today, we can feel spiritually dry despite having access to immense biblical knowledge
Our primary calling is to walk intimately with God, not just know about Him
Practical tips for intimacy: daily quiet times, journaling, nature walks, sabbath rest, community

Takeaway: “It’s not about what you know, but who you’re with. The vibrant life we long for is found in intimacy with Jesus, not just knowledge accumulation.”
